When the weather turns cold and the days feel long, cooking can quickly become the last thing you want to do.
This is usually where things either go really well… or completely fall apart.
You’re tired. You’re hungry. And suddenly the easy option isn’t always the one that makes you feel better.
That’s where simple soups come in.
Not as a “health trend” or anything complicated — just as a practical way to eat well, feel better, and take the pressure off.
Why Soup Works
When your gut feels off, the goal isn’t to overhaul everything.
It’s to simplify.
Soups naturally do that.
They’re:
- Warm and easy to eat
- Made with simple, whole ingredients
- Flexible depending on what you have at home
- Gentle on digestion compared to heavier meals
You’re not forcing your body to work harder than it needs to — you’re giving it something steady and easy to process.
What I Put In Mine
This weekend, I’m batch cooking a few simple soups using what we already have at home.
Nothing fancy — just real food that works.
I usually build soups around:
- A base: stock or broth
- Vegetables: whatever is in season or needs using up
- Protein: chicken, beans, or lentils
- Carbs: rice, potatoes, or legumes
It’s less about following a strict recipe, and more about keeping things simple and consistent.
3 Simple Soup Ideas
If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few easy combinations:
- Chicken, vegetables and rice
- Pumpkin and lentil
- Mixed vegetable and bean
All of these are filling, budget-friendly, and easy to adjust depending on what you have.
When Your Gut Feels Off, Start Here
When digestion feels a bit out of balance, it’s easy to start overthinking food.
Cutting more things out.
Trying new supplements.
Changing what you eat every few days.
But often, the best place to start is the simplest one.
Meals that are:
- consistent
- easy to prepare
- and easy for your body to handle
You don’t need perfection — just a bit more stability.
A Simple Way Forward
If food has been feeling harder than it should lately, this is usually where I start.
Simple meals.
Less guesswork.
A bit more structure.
I go through this step-by-step in my 6-week reset, starting June 1, for anyone who wants a clearer, more practical approach to feeling better.
